ACCESS AND SKUD 18 EVENTS IN AUSTRALIA
2010 Australian Championships at Brighton, Victoria, January 14-17
The 2010 Australian Access Class Championships will be held at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club from Thursday January 14 through Sunday January 17.
Royal Brighton hosted a very successful Victorian Championships in 2008 and have also conducted a variety of World and Australian Championships over the years for a range of classes. One of the State’s premier keelboat clubs, RBYC is about 10km from the Melbourne CBD, has a recently refurbished clubhouse and an extensive floating marina.
2010 is the first time that the SKUD 18 will be included in the Australian Access Class Championships.
The Notice of Race is now being developed and this should be available in early July. Keep an eye on the class website www.accessclass.org
2010 Australian Youth Championships at Largs Bay, South Australia, January 5-10
The 2010 Australian Youth Championships will be held at the Largs Bay Sailing Club from January 5 to 11. The Youth Sailors with a Disability will be hosted at Largs Bay, but sail from the nearby Port Adelaide Sailing Club.
Sailors who will be under the age of 19 at December 31, 2010 are eligible. It is understood that sailors who would meet the IFDS Functional Classification Criteria, and those with a documented intellectual disability, will be able to compete in the Youth Sailors with a Disability division/s that will be sailed in the Access classes. Sailors from Australia and overseas can compete in this prestigious event.
Yachting Australia has provided a great opportunity for young people with a disability to compete in a national event. Please encourage any young sailors with a disability you know to enter, and help provide the support needed to get them there.
The Notice of Race for the Australian Youth Championships should be available soon. Keep an eye on www.youthchamps.org.au
2009 ISAF World Cup - Sail Melbourne at Sandringham, Victoria, December 14-19
The 2009 ISAF Sailing World Cup will be held again at the Sail Melbourne Asia-Pacific Regatta hosted by Sandringham Yacht Club from December 14-19
The event includes all the Olympic classes along with the SKUD 18 and the 2.4mR. One New Zealand SKUD 18 team has already indicated they expect to be competing and it is hoped that other overseas competitors will be drawn to the regatta. Hopefully we can get all the Australian SKUDs along for Sail Melbourne and the Nationals, being held a month apart at neighbouring clubs.
The Notice of Race is now available at www.sailmelbourne.com.au
