New Forest Sailability TT regatta on 5th May 2021

Invitation

including outline of conditions of entry (for full details see the Notice of race below)

We pleased to be able to invite you to enter this event however due to Covid-19 the usual basis on which we run our TT has been amended in particular to limit:

•    the number of visiting boats, and thus their unloading, launching and rigging, to only Libertys

•    the number of crew in a boat to single-handed unless from the same household

•    the extent of volunteer assistance

•    the use of the clubhouse facilities to only the toilets

•    social gathering generally by having negligible race briefings, no hospitality and food and drink sales and no      presentations/prize-giving

•    Generally the number of people on site through minimum household members, volunteers and carers and no spectators.

1.  Visiting competitor’s boats

Only Liberty competitors are invited to bring their own boats.

2.  Other boats

For the 303 fleet we would use our own 11 boats and the 6 from the Hansa Support Unit. One of our boats has servo; mini-joystick helm and main sheet. Please contact Malcolm Bentley if interested in using this boat.

We have two 2.3s.

We would have all the 303s and 2.3s, ideally including the Support Unit, launched, rigged and sanitised from the day before.

Competitors will be pre-assigned to boats through NFS drawing lots and maybe given parking directions in advance to bring them as close as possible to their assigned boat. We will seek to allocate competitors to pontoon slots that meet their needs for wheelchair access, hoisting or other assistance.

All boats will be rigged in advance with that boat’s sails and competitors may not bring their own sails.

3.  Crewing restrictions

Generally only single-handed sailing. Two-handed sailing allowed if they are from same household.

4.  Restrictions on entry numbers

Entry numbers are limited to the boats available. Priority will be given to visiting competitors and NFS members that have previously participated in away TT events. Other NFS competitors are encouraged to enter on the understanding that it may not be possible for them to compete if a boat is not available.

5.  Volunteer assistance to competitors

Competitors are encouraged to bring a household member or carer (but only one) to assist with hoisting and entering the boat and rigging/adjustment once in the boat. This will reduce the amount of other volunteer help required.

Other volunteer help is permissible but should be as limited as possible and PPE may be advisable.

Only essential competitor helpers and volunteers will be allowed on site. No spectators are allowed.

6.  Safety boats

Safety boat cover will of course be provided as usual. However, some of these may be single manned and in any case providing assistance would most likely breach social distancing. Thus competitors are asked to sail considerately and conservatively and race management may be more conservative in deciding to cancel racing due to bad weather.

7.  Competitor safety

Competitors are required to be equipped with foul weather gear and appropriate layering for warmth. Changing room space is limited and may be unavailable and the clubhouse will be closed giving little cover or warmth from bad weather.

8.  Race format and briefing etc

We will run a single session of three races back-to-back. There will be a virtual race briefing on Zoom, planned for 5pm the day before the event. Those entered will be invited to join the Zoom meeting along with anyone else that has requested an invitation. A recording will be available. Printed copies of the course will be distributed on the day and the course displayed on a board.

9.   Entries and administration

Entries and payment should all be made in advance. (for details see the entry form below))

There would not be any speeches or prize giving.

10.  Hospitality and facilities

The clubhouse toilets will be available and the availability of changing rooms, which are limited anyway, depends on the relaxation of restrictions.

No hospitality will be provided and competitors and helpers must be self-sufficient in terms of food and drink. It may be possible to offer hot water or hot drinks.

We very much look forward to seeing you,

Malcolm Bentley
