Light Wind and Rain Dampens Second Day of Access Worlds
Light breezes and rain made for difficult conditions for the second racing day at the Bruce Wake 2010 Access Class Worlds and SKUD18 International Championships. The event is being conducted by the Rutland Sailing Club.

The SKUD 18s and two-person Access 303s were on the water for the morning session. The light south-easterly enabled Race Officer David Wilkins to complete the first heats right on the 40 minute target time. By the time the second heats were half way, the breeze was dropping and shifting so a shorten course was signalled.
Christopher Molesworth / Mark Alton (GBR) scored 2-1 today and have a 6 point lead in the 303 two-person competition. Kenji Sasahara / Yumiko Suzuki (JPN) have moved up to second overall with 3-2 placings this morning and have a 2 point break on Zoltan Pegan / Eva Mircsev (HUN). The Hungarians, who are defending their title from the last Worlds in Canada are up in the podium places after posting a win and a 5th today.

In the SKUD 18s, Alexandra Rickham / Niki Birrell (GBR) posted two wins to take a 7 point lead from Michael Cogswell / Liz Foreman (GBR). Jean-Claude Mirc / Gerard Eychenne (FRA) placed 3-6 today to maintain their 3rd position overall and sit 2 points clear of Simon Harle / Brian McCandless (GBR).
There was a short delay in getting the Access 2.3, 303 and Liberty single-person classes on the water for their afternoon session while the breeze settled in to the North and stabilised. Thankfully, there was also a welcome break from the rain for a while. Shortly after the start of heat one however, the wind dropped out and the race was abandoned for all three divisions. The rain then settled back in and competitors had an uncomfortable wait in the start area waiting for the breeze to return. Eventually the race committee abandoned racing for the day, so the single-person classes will get an early start tomorrow, hoping to get in an extra race.

Results are therefore unchanged, with Angus MacGregor (AUS) leading the Access 2.3s, Zoltan Pegan (HUN) on top in the single-person 303, and Magali Moraines (FRA) best in the Liberty.
100 competitors comprising 82 entries from 10 countries are participating in the Championships. Results and event information is published on the ACA(UK) website www.accessclass.org.uk. Racing continues until Friday June 11.
