2016 Hansa Class World Championships
Hello all Hansa, Liberty and SKUD Sailors,
Are you thinking of attending the Hansa Class World Championships at Medemblik in the Netherlands in June next year? If so you should already have discovered the event website http://www.2016hansaworlds.com/ where there are full details of the event, including accommodation possibilities. As for all such events it pays to get accommodation booked early especially if you need an accessible room.
Note that British competitors will need to arrange to take their own boats to the event so unless you own your own boat you will need to ask your Sailability group whether you can have a suitable boat for the week and work out how to get it there. Putting a Hansa 303 or 2.3 on a roof rack is quite practicable and cuts down on ferry fares. Check that it will have insurance for use in Europe and appropriate 3rd Party cover as required by the Notice of Race. If the expense of the whole event seems a lot, why not seek sponsorship from local charities or businesses.
As the HCA(UK) committee has suggested forming a “Team GBR” with a team shirt for sailors and helpers to buy, will all intending participants please get in touch with us,
Lindsay Burns -
and/or Richard Smallwood -
as soon as possible. When we have an idea of the number of participants we will suggest a shirt design and give an estimated cost which we will keep as low as possible.
We both have experience of the 2010 World Championships at Rutland, the 2012 event in Sydney, two European Championships and other events overseas, and will try to answer any questions you may have. The 2014 World Championships was cancelled so next year’s event has special significance. It is unlikely to return to Europe until 2022!
Anyone entering before 31st December will save 40 Euros on the entry fee, so it's worth acting soon.
Here’s hoping for a strong GBR representation at Medemblik,
Lindsay and Richard
